Beth Israel to honor legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Jan. 12

The community is invited a special Shabbat service honoring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Friday, Jan. 12 at 7 pm at Beth Israel, 2501 Shore Road, Northfield, N.J. Rabbi Michael L. Feshbach and Cantor Rhoda J. Harrison will lead a Shabbat service that intersperses traditional Jewish liturgy with readings about civil rights, including Dr. Martin Luther King’s iconic “I have a dream” speech.

A highlight will be the presentation of the second annual Beth Israel/NAACP Spirit of MLK Award to high school seniors. This year’s recipients are:

Atlantic City High School: Shadley D. Trezil

Atlantic County Institute of Technology: Breanna Bell

Cedar Creek High School: Luna Vazquez

Egg Harbor Township High School: Samantha Reed

Mainland Regional High School: Sadie Kent

Pleasantville High School: Sanai Graham

 

A reception will follow in the synagogue’s Ashner Auditorium.
