Annual event features thousands of donated items, baked goods and bargain shopping Nov. 1-2

For more than 70 years, Beth Israel’s annual Thrift and Bake Sale has brought the community together for two days of bargain shopping, homemade baked goods and volunteer spirit. The longstanding tradition returns Sunday, Nov. 1, and Monday, Nov. 2, at the synagogue, 2501 Shore Road in Northfield.

The event transforms Beth Israel’s 7,000-square-foot auditorium into an organized marketplace featuring quality clothing, household goods, jewelry and specialty items donated by congregation members. Behind the scenes, volunteers devote hundreds of hours to collecting, sorting, pricing and arranging merchandise. Their efforts create a shopping experience where visitors can easily browse clothing and other items without searching through bins.

Affordability has long been a hallmark of the sale. For example, a family of four can purchase four pairs of jeans and four sweatshirts for less than $35 on Sensation Sunday (Nov 1) and less than $18 on Bargain Monday (Nov 2) . A dedicated Boutique area offers jewelry and specialty merchandise, while the Bake Sale features homemade cupcakes, cookies, specialty breads and other treats.

The sale opens with Sensational Sunday, Nov. 1, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. It continues with Bargain Monday, Nov. 2, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, when remaining merchandise will be discounted by 50%. Shoppers can also participate in the Fill-a-Bag special on Monday, with small bags priced at $20 and large bags at $40.

Now in its eighth decade, the Thrift and Bake Sale remains a Beth Israel tradition, reflecting the congregation’s longstanding commitment to volunteerism and community engagement.

Please note there will be a drawing on Sunday only. You must be present at the time of three drawings to win $10 Thrift Dollars; one each half hour starting at 10 a.m.

Please note there is no dressing room and accepted payment methods are cash, Venmo or PayPal. No checks or credit cards. A reminder to shoppers: Daylight saving time ends Sunday, Nov. 1, so be sure to set your clocks back one hour before heading to the sale.
