Officials at Atlantic City International Airport welcomed Breeze Airways on Wednesday, May 6. The low-cost carrier is now offering regular flights to Charleston, S.C., with roundtrips to Raleigh-Durham and Tampa, Fla. to commence in the coming months. The carrier will also be rolling out service to popular destinations throughout Florida over the next several months.

Kimberly Cappucci of Barnegat was one of the first passengers on board to Charleston on Wednesday. “My daughter is graduating college on Friday and we had three Spirit (Airlines) flights cancel on us. As soon as this became an option, we booked our flights.”

Airport officials and dignitaries welcomed the news with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Stephen Dougherty, executive director of the South Jersey Transportation Authority, says the new routes offer meaningful expansion and more opportunities for passengers. “Breeze has stepped forward with a clear and tangible commitment to this market, announcing multiple new routes that will restore and expand access to key destinations that our customers rely on,” Dougherty said.

Breeze Airways began operations five years ago and have quickly expanded their footprint into 88 cities across the country, alongside international service. “To say it’s been a rocket ship is obviously an understatement”, says Angela Vargo, vice president of Marketing and Communication of Breeze Airways.

Vargo expressed her enthusiasm and said they are hoping to fill more dots and take flyers to more places. “Not only are we here to serve those in Atlantic City, but also to bring more tourism and business here, to spend dollars and help support this community,” she said

“A little over a year ago, we started looking at the assets of Atlantic City

and the region”, says Gary Musich, chief executive officer of Visit Atlantic City. “It’s about everything here; eco-tourism, golf, dining, boating, it’s about expanding why somebody comes to our region and expands their stay,” he said.

For customers like Cappucci, convenience is a major factor. “This is the closest airport to us; it’s the easiest airport to get in and out of. We love the staff, always have. Atlantic City is my most favorite option in the world, so I’m excited for this,” she said.

Non-stop flights to Fort Myers, West Palm Beach, and Myrtle Beach will be added to the roster by the end of this year.
