Just in time for the summer season, the Ocean City Fishing Pier has reopened after undergoing a significant renovation aimed at enhancing safety, comfort and accessibility for visitors.
Local and county officials gathered June 5 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the project at the popular fishing destination located near the base of the Ocean City-Longport Bridge on Ocean Drive.
The improvements were funded through a partnership between the Cape May County Bridge Commission and Cape May County. The project carried a price tag of more than $731,000, including a $100,000 contribution from the county.

The 500-foot pier, which attracts anglers, families and sightseers throughout the year, received a variety of upgrades designed to modernize the facility and improve the overall visitor experience.
Among the improvements are new wooden railings and fencing, upgraded fish-cleaning stations, additional trash receptacles, new concrete benches and picnic tables, and enhanced lighting throughout the pier.
Officials said the upgrades were intended to create a cleaner, safer and more welcoming environment for the thousands of visitors who use the pier each year.
Representatives from the Cape May County Bridge Commission, Cape May County Board of Commissioners and local elected officials attended the reopening ceremony.
The renovation addressed aging infrastructure and maintenance issues that had developed over time.
The fishing pier, which occupies a remaining section of a former bridge structure, was temporarily closed in March while construction crews completed the work ahead of the busy summer tourism season.
Officials said the project reflects an ongoing commitment to maintaining public waterfront amenities and preserving access to recreational fishing opportunities throughout Cape May County.
The pier has long served as a gathering place for residents and visitors seeking a convenient location to fish, enjoy waterfront views or spend time outdoors. Its location along the back bays provides access to a variety of fish species and scenic views of the surrounding waterways.
County and bridge commission leaders said the upgrades will help ensure the facility remains a valued community asset for years to come.
The reopening comes as Ocean City enters its peak summer season, when the pier is expected to welcome anglers, families and tourists looking to take advantage of the improved amenities and waterfront setting.
With construction complete and the ribbon officially cut, the renovated fishing pier is once again open to the public and ready for another busy season along the coastline.
