Ocean City’s youngest competitors crawled into the spotlight Tuesday morning during the annual Pamper Scamper at Sixth Street Beach.
The Aug. 11 event brought babies, parents and spectators to the sand for a lighthearted race. Open to children 15 months old and younger, the free competition began at 9 a.m. following registration.
During the Pamper Scamper, babies begin near the center of a marked racing area and crawl toward parents or guardians waiting at the perimeter. Some competitors move quickly toward the finish, while others pause, change direction or remain at the starting point, adding to the fun for families watching.
The racers competed in heats, with encouragement from relatives and spectators. While the event included competition, the morning focused largely on family fun and creating memories at the beach.
The Pamper Scamper traditionally serves as a prelude to Ocean City’s annual Baby Parade, one of the city’s longest-running family events. This year’s 116th Baby Parade is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 13, on the Boardwalk.
The crawling race reflects Ocean City’s emphasis on family-friendly traditions.
