The City of Atlantic City has launched the Department of Public Works’ Clean Communities initiative for summer 2026, marking the fifth consecutive year of this citywide effort to keep Atlantic City clean. As part of the 2026 kickoff in Atlantic City’s 6th Ward, the city introduced a new mobile recycling program, and a new effort to encourage resident participation.
The Mobile Recycling Program allows residents to place additional recyclable household items at the curb for collection on their regularly scheduled trash pickup days. Eligible items include discarded electronics, yard waste, and scrap metal. These materials previously required separate disposal arrangements. The Department of Public Works has dedicated a specialized vehicle to collect these items throughout the city on collection days. Residents may also continue to drop off these items at the Public Works Yard, located at 1100 N. Albany Ave., between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Thursday through Monday.
The City is also introducing property recognition rewards throughout the summer. Led by Clean Communities Coordinator Angela Pittman, the initiative will recognize property owners in each ward who demonstrate exceptional upkeep and pride in their homes and properties. Residents do not need to register or apply to participate. Simply maintaining a clean, attractive property could result in a special surprise from the Clean Communities team!

As part of Clean Communities, Public Works crews will continue their ward-by-ward cleanup schedule throughout the summer, working in a different section of the city each day. Residents are encouraged to join the effort alongside Public Works staff. To support volunteer participation, the city will provide trash bags, gloves, grabbers, and safety vests free of charge. Supplies can be picked up in Suite 605A at City Hall, located at 1301 Bacharach Boulevard.
City leaders and members of City Council joined Department of Public Works crews to officially kick off the 2026 Clean Communities Initiative with a cleanup at Kingston Avenue Playground. Following the cleanup, Public Works continued their efforts throughout the 6th Ward as part of the program’s regular neighborhood cleanup schedule.
