The Marine Mammal Stranding Center Needs Funds to Save Sea Life

At a time when donations are urgently needed, the Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC) is asking the community to support its mission this Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving powered by social media and collective generosity, observed the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

For nearly five decades, MMSC has been New Jersey’s only organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of sick and injured marine mammals and sea turtles. Staff and volunteers have responded to more than 6,400 stranding calls for seals, dolphins, whales, and sea turtles along every stretch of New Jersey’s coastline. This important work is possible only through community support, and now MMSC needs the generous support of the public to continue its mission.

Donations to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center support critical rescue operations and medical care for marine mammals and sea turtles that have no other lifeline in New Jersey. Rising costs and increased stranding responses mean donations are more important than ever. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps ensure that sick and injured animals continue to receive the care they deserve.

A new mini-documentary, filmed during the most recent seal season, highlights the remarkable efforts of MMSC’s responders and medical team. The short film features dramatic rescues, heartwarming releases, and behind-the-scenes moments inside the marine mammal hospital, giving donors a clear view of how their contributions directly impact vulnerable wildlife. The mini-documentary can be viewed at https://youtu.be/LabAxQXRB4I. The MMSC’s dedication and  hard work were recently honored with the Best Nonprofit Silver award by Best of the Press Atlantic City and the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid on GuideStar: https://guidestar.org/profile/22-2368650.
