While Hurricane Erin is not currently projected to make landfall in New Jersey, the Atlantic City Office of Emergency Management is urging residents and visitors to prepare for significant weather impacts during the next several days.

The storm is expected to bring major coastal flooding, strong winds, and severe beach erosion along the East Coast, including in Atlantic City. Residents in flood-prone areas are strongly advised to move their vehicles to higher ground by 5:00 PM on Thursday, August 21, 2025. To assist with this, the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) has authorized free parking at the Wave Parking Garage, located at Mississippi and Fairmount Avenues, for both residents and visitors from 10:00 AM on Thursday through 10:00 AM on Friday, August 22, 2025. Motorists should also prepare for temporary closures or lane reductions on Route 30 and Route 40 over the next few days due to flooding conditions, particularly during the Thursday evening high tide. If a road is flooded, never drive through water in the streets, turn around and use an alternate route, and never try to drive around police barricades that are in place. Residents and businesses should move any outdoor items that can become projectiles indoors immediately.

In response to hazardous surf conditions, the Atlantic City Beach Patrol is restricting bathing through at least Thursday and will reassess the situation on Friday. Even when restrictions are lifted, beachgoers should never swim when lifeguards are off duty (guarded summer beach hours in Atlantic City are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily). Always follow lifeguard instructions and pay attention to flags and warnings. Atlantic City Police Department high water vehicles are serviced and ready to go if needed to allow officers to get to all areas of the city, including areas that are flooded. Ahead of any potential flooding, the Atlantic City Department of Public Works removed trash cans from the beach and removed debris from the streets that could possibly clog up drainage systems citywide.
