It was on November 5, 1935 that Parker Brothers introduced the board game Monopoly, where all the streets are named after actual streets in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
The game was invented by an out-of-work heating contractor from Philadelphia named Charles Darrow. The game that became Monopoly wildly outperformed Parker Brothers’ modest expectations, becoming the most popular game in history. Although they initially rejected Darrow’s offer to sell it to them, the powers that be at Parker Brothers changed their minds after the independently manufactured game began flying off the shelves of a Philadelphia department store, though the company still believed the game was a fad that would soon fade. They began marketing it as Monopoly on this day, Nov. 5, in 1935.
Monopoly sales soon made Darrow so rich that he abandoned the heating trade for a hothouse hobby: growing orchids. According to Hasbro, which acquired Parker Brothers in 1991, more than 275 million Monopoly games — including more than 6 billion green houses and 2.25 billion red hotels — have been sold since 1935. I worked as a Credit Executive and loved every minute of it. Great times!
I worked there as a cook from the day it opened. I have some really good memories. I was working in what was called " Heffs Lounge" a cute little bar off the casino floor. Then there was the bus tour buffet. I had really great memories of the buffet. However I knew too many people and the casino security wanted me to set people up. I refused and they forced me to resign. The casinos of the eighties gotta love them.
I still have a dollar chip from this casino. Along with Golden Nugget and the old tRump casinos as well. Lovin' it!

Picture this – a Category 3 hurricane, quickly moving up the Jersey Shore from south to north, in a track similar to Hurricane Irene in 2011. It would be the most powerful hurricane to impact us since the Great Atlantic Hurricane of 1944, which skirted east of the coastline by about 50 miles.

That's awesome!! Congratulations ladies!!
Congratulations!!
“The Barbary Coast” referred to a strip of Margate bars that stretched from the bayfront to Washington Avenue and then to the beach. These partying spots were in operation from the 1950s through the 1980s, although some were in business as early as the 1940s and as late as the early 2000s.

The Elbo Room was were my Dad had hot roast beef Chinese egg and shrimp rolls and rice a Roni late night food concession prior to 1972 it was located where Memories in Margate is now, and Steve and Cookies was previously Strutbecks where my aunt Thelma “Cookie” DiFabio (ironically a different Cookie) was a hostess there for many years
Not even close to the real history of the “Barbary Coast”. What is the Harbor Inn? 10 for a $1 was the Beacon. Which was Mush’s before that Memories was the Elbo room. Omar’s was the Old Tavern back in the Barbary Coast days. And probably the biggest miss was not mentioning the Voigt’s Edgewater C’mon people
It was the absolute best!

😎LIKE THE WARMTH? MORE'S COMING 😎
You won't need the coat over your Halloween costume this year. We're project to LIKELY be WARMER than average from Oct. 29-Nov. 4.
Why? A big ridge of high pressure will settle in the Northeast, again, next week. Get ready for more 70s during the day, even at the beach! 80s would be a long shot.
Anyone remember the Halloween of 1946? That was our warmest on record for the shore.
