Letter from the editor
This Fourth of July carries special significance as our nation marks its 250th birthday. Across South Jersey, communities will come together to celebrate America’s semiquincentennial with parades, concerts, fireworks and family traditions that remind us why this holiday remains one of our most cherished.
There is no better place to celebrate Independence Day than the Jersey Shore. From sunrise walks on the beach to fireworks lighting up the night sky, this weekend captures everything we love about summer. The beaches will be full, boardwalks bustling, restaurants overflowing and neighborhoods decorated in red, white and blue. Children will be chasing waves, building sand castles and racing to eat their ice cream before it melts.
No matter where you are celebrating, Shore Local has you covered. Inside this issue you’ll find entertainment highlights, community calendars and Fourth of July events happening throughout South Jersey. Don’t miss our Top Weekly Entertainment Picks in the Wahoo center section, the Ocean City Pops’ free outdoor concert and drone shows, and our comprehensive “What’s Happening in Ocean City” listings, along with dozens of other events across the region. This issue of Shore Local is our biggest ever and packed with things to do.
As we gather with family and friends, it is also a time to reflect on the freedoms we sometimes take for granted. Independence was earned through extraordinary sacrifice, and generations of brave men and women have continued to defend those freedoms ever since. We owe them our deepest gratitude. Their service allows us to celebrate in peace with the people we love.
Like many Americans, Bob and I have developed an even greater appreciation for our country through the experience of owning a small business. America was founded on the promise of opportunity — the freedom to worship, to speak openly, to pursue a dream and, through hard work and perseverance, build something meaningful. That spirit continues to inspire entrepreneurs, volunteers and community leaders who make our region such a wonderful place to call home.
Our nation certainly faces challenges, and we don’t always agree on the path forward. Yet Independence Day reminds us that what unites us is far greater than what divides us. This week, we stand together as Americans, grateful for our freedoms and proud to call this country home.
Thank you for spending part of your summer with Shore Local. We are grateful to our readers, advertisers and the local businesses that make this publication possible each week. We encourage you to support the merchants and service providers featured throughout these pages—they truly are the backbone of our community. From all of us at Shore Local, have a safe, joyful and memorable Fourth of July.
May God bless America.
Peace & Love, Cindy
