Nature provided both the materials and the inspiration when seniors at BERON Jewish Older Adult Services (JOAS) recently gathered for a creative session through Mosaic’s Brushes & Blooms program. With an assortment of green leaves in different shapes and sizes, participants found inventive ways to incorporate nature into their own artwork in this horticultural therapy session.

The seniors used leaves in unexpected ways to bring their artwork to life. Some incorporated leaves as hair in their drawings of people, while others transformed them into animals, plants and elements of nature. The hands-on project gave participants an opportunity to explore their creativity while enjoying the textures, colors and beauty of the natural world.

Brushes & Blooms is a Mosaic program that combines art and horticultural therapy to promote creativity, social engagement and emotional well-being among older adults. Programs are available for booking throughout the region. Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to inquire about funding support through Mosaic. For-profit partners are welcome to participate at a program rate. To learn more or to schedule a therapeutic gardening session, please contact office@mosaicgiving.org or (609) 916-6520.
