Pleasantville Mayor Judy Ward and city, county and state officials broke ground for the new Pleasantville Center on July 31.
“One of my priorities was to provide a center for our senior citizens. Today’s groundbreaking is the first step towards making this dream a reality,” Ward said.
The Center will be used for senior services, youth activities and an emergency operations center.
Last year, the city completed the purchase of an abandoned warehouse at 121 W. Park Avenue. A $1,569,700 construction contract has been awarded to R.E. Maxwell Construction, a Pleasantville-based company, for Phase 1 of this project.
Phase 1 construction includes the renovation of the existing 7,200 square foot wood and steel framed pre-engineered building to create a new center to support disaster preparedness and community uses. Renovations include the removal and replacement of the existing building skin and roof; new installation; utilities; mechanical, plumbing, and electrical system, parking, and landscaping.
Phase 2 includes parking and landscaping, and bids will be accepted for this work in August.
Funding for this project is being provided by a grant from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Community Development Block Grants (CDBG). Funding has been secured by Rutala Associates, a local planning firm.
“The Atlantic County Improvement Authority has been a wonderful partner. Not only do they help manage the funding for this project, but they have also served as the project manager,” Ward said.
