Ocean City Pride Fest brought residents, allies, advocates and community organizations together at the Ocean City Civic Center on May 30, celebrating inclusion and connection ahead of Pride Month in June.
The event highlighted efforts to foster a welcoming environment while providing information, resources and support for residents and visitors throughout South Jersey.
Attendees visited tables hosted by healthcare providers, educational institutions, advocacy groups and community service organizations. Participants shared information about programs and services available throughout the region, with a focus on accessibility, mental health, education and community outreach.
Organizers said Pride Fest is designed to be more than a celebration of LGBTQ+ identities. The event also serves as an opportunity to connect community members with resources and strengthen relationships among local organizations.
Throughout the Civic Center, visitors engaged with representatives from organizations offering services ranging from counseling and housing assistance to educational programs and support networks. The event encouraged conversation, awareness and community engagement while promoting a message of acceptance and belonging.
Among the participating organizations was Beautiful Minds, a nonprofit that provides outpatient counseling, telehealth services and in-home mental health care. Representatives spoke with attendees about available resources and the importance of creating supportive spaces for individuals seeking assistance. Jeff Cox, director of clinical services for Beautiful Minds, said events such as Pride Fest help reinforce the value of inclusion within the community.
The event featured music, informational displays and opportunities for attendees to interact directly with service providers. Families, residents and visitors gathered throughout the day, reflecting the broad range of people served by participating organizations.
Cox said empathy and understanding remain important components of building stronger communities.
The gathering concluded with a message echoed throughout the day: building an inclusive community requires ongoing efforts rooted in acceptance, understanding and support. For many attendees, the event served as both a celebration and a reminder of the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels welcome.
