The Gallery at the Ocean City Arts Center presents “Fragments of Life: Oils by Marcos Monteiro,” an exhibition featuring the work of accomplished fine artist, illustrator, and art educator Marcos Monteiro. The exhibition will be on view from Sept. 1 through Sept. 29, with the public invited to a Meet the Artist Reception on Friday, Sept. 11, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Admission to the exhibition and reception is free. Location is 1735 Simpson Ave., 2nd Floor.

Born and raised along the southeast coast of Brazil, Marcos Monteiro developed an early fascination with the ocean and marine life. His experiences exploring the coastline and studying sea life became an important source of inspiration for his artistic career. He began his professional journey in 1983, later working as an illustrator for leading sport-fishing brands, as well as an art instructor and muralist .

With more than 35 years of professional experience, Monteiro is a fine artist, illustrator, and educator who works primarily in oils. His artistic focus includes portraiture and the human figure, exploring the beauty, dignity, and emotional depth of the human experience through expressive realism.

Today, Monteiro maintains a working studio at the Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton University in Atlantic City, where he creates original paintings and teaches classical drawing and painting. He also teaches oil painting classes and workshops at the Ocean City Arts Center, helping artists of all experience levels develop skills in drawing, composition, color, and representational painting. His teaching emphasizes observation, craftsmanship, and encouraging each student to discover their own artistic voice.

Whether creating a commissioned portrait, exhibiting original artwork, or mentoring emerging artists, Monteiro is dedicated to preserving the traditions of fine art while inspiring others through creativity and discipline. His goal is not simply to reproduce what he sees, but to capture something of its spirit—to invite viewers to pause, look more closely, and experience a moment of beauty or connection.
