Local healthcare hero honored

Views from the Shore

Working at a hospital, I get the opportunity to witness many incredible professionals who make a real impact on healthcare. Jacqueline Evenson is one of those incredible individuals at Shore Medical Center. Having the privilege of working in the same hospital as her, I have been able to see firsthand how she has positively impacted our surgical department.

Her passion for Shore started long before she became a leader. Jacqueline was born and raised in Ocean City– in fact, she was born at the hospital. Her passion for healthcare became known from a young age. As a middle schooler, she would spend hours studying her anatomy books and volunteering as a candy striper at the hospital. While volunteering, she would admire the nurses and dream of one day becoming one herself. Jacqueline’s love for her hometown and Shore led her back to work at the hospital after earning her nursing degree. This was the beginning of a career that would change many people’s lives.

Jacqueline was recently honorably recognized with the 2024 Surgical Chairman’s Award for her contributions to surgical care at Shore Medical Center. I believe that there is no one more deserving for this award. Her commitment, innovative mindset, and compassionate approach to the care of all patients has inspired all of us at the hospital.

One of her biggest accomplishments was the creation of our robotic surgery program. It has become a fully functioning, high-level robotics program with surgeons across multiple different specialties. Since the launch of the Da Vinci Xi surgical robot in October 2023, over 1,000 robotic surgeries have been performed. These surgeries have allowed patients faster recovery, less pain, reduced narcotic use, and lower risks of complications.

None of this would have been possible without Jacqueline’s dedication. She coordinated surgeon training, managed equipment, and oversaw the logistics involved in constructing and running the program. Her leadership allowed Shore Medical Center the opportunity to provide cutting-edge care while keeping patient care close to home, something that means a lot to the community surrounding the hospital.

Over the years, I have watched Jacqueline transform Shore Medical Center in so many ways. From playing a crucial role in integrating the Brainlab spine navigation system to the Da Vinci Xi surgical robot- her accomplishments are many. I am proud to know this talented, driven, and compassionate professional and to be able to observe her passion for her patients at Shore Medical Center. Her dedication has not only transformed surgical care but it has also left a lasting impact on all of us fortunate enough to know her. Congratulations, Jacqueline- this honor is well deserved, and I know your impact will continue to be felt for many years to come.
