A 69-year-old Galloway Township woman was killed Monday morning when a deer struck by another vehicle was thrown into the path of her car, police said.
Galloway Township police responded to Moss Mill Road near Frankfurt Avenue at approximately 8:35 a.m. Oct. 19.
According to investigators, a 30-year-old Egg Harbor City man was driving a 2000 Honda east on Moss Mill Road when his vehicle struck a deer. The impact propelled the animal into the westbound lane, where it struck a 2021 Kia wagon driven by the Galloway woman.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not release her name or report any injuries to the Honda driver.
The fatal crash occurred as deer activity increases with the changing season. Galloway Township police are urging motorists to remain especially alert around dawn and dusk, when deer are most active.
If a deer or another animal enters the road, drivers should brake firmly while remaining in their lane. Police advise against swerving sharply because it can cause a motorist to lose control or collide with another vehicle.
