Five fab and fun family things to do this week

By Danielle Davies

With a five-day weekend on the horizon for hundreds of New Jersey school children this week — thank you, New Jersey Education Association Convention — now would be a very good time to start making plans for all those unstructured hours, especially if you want to squeeze in some family time before the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Fortunately, there are some pretty fantastic activities spread throughout South Jersey over the next few days, from the extra special to the truly sublime. Here are five fab and fun family things to do this week.

  1. Disney on Ice

It’s all the fun of Disney without the bajillion-dollar price tag. Head to Boardwalk Hall for “Magic in The Stars”, where every story starts with a wish. Guests will take a magical journey with Mickey, Minnie and friends through the timeless stories of “Cinderella”, “Aladdin”, “Toy Story”, and “Cars”, and today’s favorites including “Encanto”, “Frozen 2”, and “Moana”. Kids and parents alike will enjoy the on-ice debut of Raya from “Raya and the Last Dragon” and create enchanted memories with Tiana, Rapunzel and the Disney princesses. Boardwalk Hall is located at 2301 Boardwalk, Atlantic City. See BoardwalkHall.com.

  1. Seashore Lines Veterans Express

Before the Santa Express begins this December, hop aboard the Veteran’s Express on Saturday, Nov. 11, and salute our Veterans for their service to our great country with a ride on a special, patriotic-themed excursion featuring a USO-style performance by the Hollywood Dolls. Departing at 11:11 a.m. and 1:11 p.m., veterans are invited to ride free with three guests. General admission tickets are also available. The Veteran’s Express is located at 1 Mill Rd., Tuckahoe. See SeashoreLines.org.

  1. Lucy the Elephant

America’s favorite pachyderm may be open year-round, but autumn is an especially perfect time for visiting dear old Lucy. Open Wednesday through Sunday, a tour through our iconic elephant is ideal for kids and parents alike.

  1. Tilton Square Theatre

It’s time to grab your popcorn and Milk Duds and settle in for a family movie, and what better way than with Captain Marvel and “The Marvels”, a new superhero film based on Marvel Comics. With an unlikely trio working to save the universe, “The Marvels” features Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-Joon. Tilton Square Theatre is located at 331 Tilton Rd., Northfield.

  1. Breakfast at The Sugar Factory

Long weekends are for big breakfasts, and there’s no place better for decadent breakfasts than The Sugar Factory at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Sure, you can indulge in some standard breakfast options like farm-fresh eggs, omelets or berry parfaits, However, when things like the Waffle Breakfast Burger (8 oz. Black Angus beef, classic vanilla bean waffle, fried egg, melted cheddar cheese, hash brown, country sausage, Applewood bacon and gravy served with warm maple syrup) or the Insane Double Stack Rainbow Pancakes are on the menu, we say, “go big!” Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is located at 1000 Boardwalk, Atlantic City. See HardRockHotelAtlanticCity.com.
