On Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, Rufino Carreon-Peralta, 50, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree aggravated sexual assault against a victim less than 13 years of age and one count of first-degree endangering the welfare of a child by permitting a child to engage in filming a prohibited sexual act.

His plea calls for a recommended sentence of 18 years in New Jersey State Prison with no parole, for the sexual assault. He is facing a sentence of 10 years in New Jersey State Prison for endangering the welfare of a child, subject to the No Early Release Act.

Both sentences are to run concurrent to each other. Upon release, he will be required to register as a sex offender pursuant to Megan’s Law, and will be subject to Parole Supervision for Life. He is currently lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

On May 11, 2023, members of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department responded to a report from a juvenile who advised that their step-farther, identified as Rufino Carreon-Peralta, had been sexually abusing them. The victim reported that while she was under the age of 13 the defendant had the victim engage in sexual acts with the defendant.

Further, the victim reported that the defendant permitted the victim to engage in filming prohibited sexual acts.

The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced by the Honorable Donna Taylor, J.S.C. on October 10, 2026. That sentencing date is tentative pending an Avenel evaluation.
