When Spirit Airlines left Atlantic City International Airport (ACY), travelers also lost access to the airline’s popular in-person ticket sales, which many passengers used to avoid added online booking fees.

Now, that option is returning. On May 15, the airport announced new in-person ticket sales hours for both Breeze Airways and Allegiant Air.

Breeze Airways will offer in-person ticket sales on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., while Allegiant Air ticket sales will be available Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Airport officials noted that Breeze customers must create a Breeze Rewards account before purchasing tickets and that transactions are limited to one reservation per purchase.

For years, South Jersey travelers frequently visited the airport in person to book Spirit Airlines flights and avoid extra online booking fees often charged by budget carriers. Travelers could typically save about $40 per passenger by purchasing tickets directly at the airport rather than online or through airline apps.

With Spirit no longer operating, many travelers are now turning to Breeze and Allegiant as ACY’s primary carriers.

Spirit Airlines officially announced earlier this month that its parent company, Spirit Aviation Holdings, Inc., had begun an “orderly wind-down of operations” after months of financial struggles tied to rising fuel costs and broader economic pressures.

The closure marked the end of more than 30 years of Spirit service at ACY, where the airline accounted for roughly 75% of passenger traffic earlier this year.

The shutdown dramatically reshaped the airport’s airline landscape but also opened the door for expansion by remaining carriers.

Allegiant Air has continued operating nonstop flights from ACY to destinations including Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers/Punta Gorda, Orlando/Sanford and Tampa/St. Pete-Clearwater in Florida. The airline is also scheduled to launch Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, service on May 21.

Meanwhile, Breeze Airways has significantly expanded its footprint with 11 routes at the airport.

The airline currently flies to Charleston, South Carolina, and plans to add Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, on June 11; Tampa on July 1; Orlando on July 3; Fort Myers and Myrtle Beach on Oct. 22; and West Palm Beach on Dec. 17.

The changes come as Allegiant also announced a merger with Sun Country Airlines, a move that could eventually bring additional destinations and expanded service opportunities to Atlantic City. Sun Country has operated occasional charter flights through ACY since 2023, many connected to the casino industry.

While details about how the merger will impact Atlantic City remain unclear, local travelers and airport officials are hopeful it could lead to more regularly scheduled flights and additional travel options in the future.

Airport leaders have welcomed the recent growth from Breeze and Allegiant as signs of continued demand for low-cost air travel in South Jersey, even after the loss of the airport’s longtime dominant carrier.
