UPDATED – Authorities have identified the two people killed in Saturday’s head-on collision on Route 50 and announced charges against four people who were traveling in an allegedly stolen vehicle.
Robert Barr Jr., 54, and Alice Stilwell, 67, both of Egg Harbor Township, died in the crash, according to an update issued by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
The collision occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. Saturday near Route 50 and Third Street in the Mays Landing section of Hamilton Township.
Investigators allege that the vehicle responsible for the crash had been stolen. Its occupants — Nayshaun Brown, 18, of Atlantic City, and three juveniles — now face charges stemming from the initial investigation.
All four have been charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree aggravated assault involving bodily injury while joyriding, third-degree joyriding, second-degree eluding and second-degree theft by receiving a stolen motor vehicle.
Brown also faces a first-degree charge of employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime.
Brown was charged on a complaint warrant and remained held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility, prosecutors said.
A Superior Court judge ordered one juvenile detained and released another Sunday morning. The third juvenile remained in custody pending a court decision.
The investigation is being conducted jointly by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, Hamilton Township Police Department and New Jersey Office of the Attorney General. Prosecutors said additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
