Looking for a fur-buddy companion as we move into fall? Your timing could not be better. Consider adopting a dog or cat from the Atlantic County Animal Shelter, August 28-30, when all adoption fees will be half price during the annual “Clear the Shelters” promotion.

The Atlantic County Animal Shelter offers canines and felines of various ages, sizes and breeds. And on occasion pure bred dogs and cats become available for adoption.

“This is our thirteenth year participating in the nationwide pet adoption campaign held each August,” said County Executive Dennis Levinson, “and we’ve experienced great success.”

Levinson noted that not only do these adoptions provide loving homes for pets, but pets can improve the lives of their owners by lowering stress, increasing physical activity, and providing emotional support.

Regular adoption fees at the shelter range from $85 for cats and kittens to $110 for dogs and puppies and include mandatory sterilization, age-appropriate vaccinations, diagnostic testing, a microchip and free veterinary consultation. Canines adopted from the shelter are also provided free obedience classes.

The shelter is located at 240 Old Turnpike Road in Pleasantville and is open to the public 1-4 pm each day. Appointments are not necessary.
