On Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, Billie Woods, 44, of Atlantic City, NJ was taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force (RFTF), Atlantic City Division and by members of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit in Atlantic City, with assistance from members of the Atlantic City Police Department, for the 2009 murder of David Nesbitt, 32, also of Atlantic City. Woods was processed at the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and subsequently lodged at the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
On Wednesday, June 3, 2009, officers from the Atlantic City Police Department responded to calls of a shooting in the area of 227 N. South Carolina Avenue, in Atlantic City at approximately 12:30 a.m.
An investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit, in conjunction with the Atlantic City Police Department, revealed David Nesbitt had suffered several gunshot wounds and was subsequently pronounced deceased.
Over the past several months, detectives from the Major Crimes Unit reexamined the cold case and all of the evidence and ultimately a determination was made that probable cause existed to charge Woods with the murder.
On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, an Atlantic County Grand Jury indicted Woods on one count of first-degree Murder.
