The City of Atlantic City officially broke ground on a new public comfort station at historic Gardner’s Basin, marking the latest investment in improving one of the city’s signature waterfront destinations. Mayor Marty Small, Sr. was joined by City leaders and project contractors to celebrate the start of construction on the new facility, which will be located just off the Seawall. The comfort station will feature new accessible men’s and women’s restrooms with multiple stalls, a family restroom and a shower room equipped with a combination lock for boaters.
This latest improvement project also includes a landscaping component with a new irrigation system to further enhance the beauty of the area. In addition, the Seawall parking lot and the street between the lot and the Atlantic City Aquarium will be paved, with new curbing and sidewalks installed.
“The Small Administration continues to make improvements in every section of the Great City of Atlantic City, and that includes the gem that is Gardner’s Basin,” said Mayor Small. “Gardner’s Basin is an important destination for our residents and visitors, and we wanted to give this area the additional care and attention it deserves. People have been asking for improvements like this for a long time, and we’re proud to deliver.”

The total cost of the project is $2.3 Million, funded through grants. All components of the improvements are expected to be completed by the start of the 2027 summer season. Weatherby Construction Corporation is the project contractor, and Arthur Ponzio Co. is the project designer. The City’s Engineering Office is overseeing the work.
These upgrades build on major improvements completed at Gardner’s Basin in recent years, including the reopening of the Atlantic City Aquarium following extensive interior and exterior renovations and repairs; completion of the Maine Avenue Promenade; pier and piling replacements; dredging; new lighting and signage throughout the basin; and the installation of electric vehicle charging stations.
This summer, the Gardner’s Basin Seawall also became one of two locations in Atlantic City where licensed and approved food trucks can operate in designated areas, expanding dining options and adding to the destination’s appeal for residents and visitors.
