The Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) and the Atlantic County Clean Communities Program invite residents to participate in its annual litter challenge.
The challenge invites groups of Atlantic County residents to clear litter from roads, parks, or other public areas between September 12 through 26. The group that collects the most litter will take home rewards: $500 for first place, $300 for second place, and $100 for third place. A $100 prize will also be awarded to the group with the strangest litter find.
“The litter challenge is an easy way for Atlantic County residents to improve their community while competing for a chance to win,” said ACUA President Matthew DeNafo. “Whether you’re a civic club, adopt-a-road group, school, local business, or just a group of friends, ACUA welcomes you to participate.”
Volunteers are invited to create a team (limited to 15 people or less) to remove litter from public areas throughout the two-week period. To be entered in the contest, teams must report each cleanup, including the number of bags collected and pictures to verify, through an online form at acua.com/litterchallenge. Safety gear and cleanup supplies can be provided by ACUA. The teams who collect the most amount of litter will be selected as the winners and announced at the end of September.
ACUA began administering the Atlantic County Clean Communities program in 2005. Since then, more than 60 percent of Atlantic County roadways have been adopted. Over the last year, volunteers removed 2,300 bags of litter across 576 miles of Atlantic County roadway.
