As a new school year begins, Fusion Church is once again putting its faith into action through Operation Orange, their fifth annual outreach initiative created to love on and encourage the people who pour into the lives of the next generation.
Operation Orange is Fusion Church’s way of helping school staff start the year strong by reminding them that they are seen, appreciated, and being prayed for through the ups and downs of the school year.
Over a two-week span, nearly 200 volunteers assembled and distributed 4,056 reusable Love Like Crazy tote bags for 35 schools across Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, and Gloucester counties, as well as a partner school in the Dominican Republic. Each orange tote bag is inscribed with the heart of Fusion Church, to “Love Like Crazy”, and is filled with back-to-school classroom essentials including disinfectant wipes, tissues, and snacks for each staff member. Generous financial support from AtlantiCare in addition to meal gift cards from Chick-fil-A Operators of South Jersey and Jersey Mike’s in Mays Landing helped make this year’s bags extra special.
But perhaps the most meaningful gift inside each bag is a note of encouragement, handwritten by members of the church, creating smiles and sharing love to each staff member.
“Sometimes the people who make the biggest difference in a child’s life are the ones who may never realize the impact they are having,” said Fusion Church Outreach Coordinator Cindy Fox. “Operation Orange is our opportunity to say, ‘We see you, we appreciate you, and what you do matters more than you know.’ We want every person who receives one of these bags to know they are valued and their community is behind them as they begin another school year.”
Operation Orange is one of many ways Fusion Church lives out its mission beyond Sunday services. While the church gathers each week for worship, its commitment to the community continues throughout the week through outreach initiatives, service projects, and local partnerships.
“We’re not just a church on Sunday,” Fox said. “We’re constantly looking for ways to better our communities and show the love of Jesus in practical ways. Operation Orange is about loving the people who are building our next generation and communities, and reminding them that they are not doing it alone.”
