The Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) is making a $2.4 million investment in its essential wastewater infrastructure in Galloway Township.
Nearly 10,000 ft. of underground pipe extending along the White Horse Pike from Pomona Road to Genista Avenue is being lined with new long-lasting polymer material, upgrading the original pipe installed in the late 1970s with a new interior that has an expected lifetime of more than 50 years.
The pipeline transports nearly 1.3 million gallons of wastewater per day from area homes and businesses in Egg Harbor City and Galloway Township to ACUA’s pump station by gravity. From there, the wastewater is pumped to ACUA’s treatment plant in Atlantic City.
This preventative maintenance project began on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, and will be completed by contractor Vortex Services, LLC. The work will be performed in sections and is expected to have little impact on traffic in the area.
“Projects like this often go unrecognized because the investments are happening underground,” said ACUA President Matthew DeNafo. “However, this pipeline improvement is critical to safely transporting wastewater and is just one example of the many upgrades ACUA is completing to ensure the reliability of its treatment system.”
ACUA is actively working to complete more than $24 million in wastewater infrastructure upgrades over the next few years. This includes work on its pipelines, pump stations, critical equipment and treatment plant facilities.
The Galloway project is being funded through the New Jersey I-Bank, which offers low-interest loans to public entities for water infrastructure projects. ACUA has applied for and is expected to receive $2 million in principal loan forgiveness for this project, which will directly benefit the Authority and its ratepayers.
