The Atlantic City Recreation Adult Softball League came together for much more than friendly competition last night, rallying around longtime league member Bionic Gwala during a special Home Run Derby held in his honor at Pop Lloyd Stadium.

Gwala is currently battling lymphoma. Members representing all 14 teams stepped up to the plate during the event, swinging for the fences while raising awareness for lymphoma and showing their support for a friend and teammate.

The event provided an opportunity for the league and the Atlantic City community to come together in support of Gwala, demonstrating the strong bonds that have developed through the city’s Recreation programs. Atlantic City Recreation also presented him with a special plaque recognizing his longtime participation in the Adult Softball League and his impact on the league community.

Players and supporters filled Pop Lloyd Stadium to show Gwala that he has an entire softball family behind him.
