The sounds of classic soul, Motown and rhythm and blues filled the air in Margate as the Sensational Soul Cruisers performed before a beachfront crowd Saturday, Aug. 8.
Hosted by the Margate City Public Library, the free summer concert was held at the Martin Bloom Community Pavilion on Huntington Avenue. Residents and visitors gathered near the beach for an evening of live music overlooking the ocean.
The Sensational Soul Cruisers brought the sound and energy of a classic show band to the outdoor stage. The 11-member horn group, fronted by four vocalists, is known for performing music inspired by the soul, Motown, R&B and disco eras of the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s.
The two-hour performance gave audience members an opportunity to sing and dance along to familiar favorites. The band’s vocal harmonies, choreography and horn arrangements helped create a lively atmosphere along the beachfront.
The concert was part of Margate’s summer tradition of offering community entertainment in an outdoor setting. The beachfront pavilion provides a gathering place for concerts, recreational programs and other seasonal activities throughout the summer.
The Margate City Public Library regularly hosts programs beyond its traditional library services, including concerts, educational presentations, children’s activities and community events. Saturday’s performance brought that programming outside, combining live entertainment with the sights and sounds of a summer evening at the Shore.
As the band performed, beachgoers and music fans filled the pavilion area for an evening that blended nostalgia with the relaxed atmosphere of Margate’s beachfront.
The concert offered longtime fans a chance to revisit familiar songs while introducing younger listeners to music that has endured across generations.
