Full confession: I have always had an interest in the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), ever since I was a little kid, but I’d never been to a live event (not counting a pre-Wrestlemania event I covered for the now-defunct Whoot! Newspaper in the 1980s at Resorts).

So when I learned the WWE was returning to Jim Whelan’s Boardwalk Hall for a double taping of its two flagship shows, RAW and Smackdown, this was an event we just had to attend! Boardwalk Hall can seat 14,770 people. From what we saw this past Monday night, there wasn’t a single empty seat in the Hall.

WWE is all about spectacle and surprise. From the elaborate costumes worn by many of the wrestlers (called “WWE Superstars”) to watching a sneak attack on a babyface (wrestling lingo for the good guy/girl) by a heel (bad guy/girl), there’s rarely a dull moment at a WWE event, and Monday night’s show(s) was full of twists and turns (all choreographed with the “winners” pre-determined, of course; that’s wrestling!).

For this taping, WWE brought most of the roster’s current top stars such as WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns; The Usos; Seth “Freakin” Rollins; Charlotte Flair (daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Rick Flair); LA Knight; Rey Mysterio; WWE Women’s World Heavyweight Champion Liv Morgan; WWE Men’s King Of The Ring, Oba Femi; Brock Lesnar and more. Besides the obvious fun of an event like a WWE live show, it was especially fun to hear all the excitement and shrieks of the young kids in the crowd.

Word has it the WWE was happy with the sold-out show and may return to Atlantic City sooner than later in the future. Way to turn out for the big shows, AC!
