Cyclists from across the region took to the streets of Absecon Island on June 6 as the Margate Business Association and Ventnor Business Association hosted the annual Le Tour de Downbeach family bike ride.
Approximately 150 riders participated in the event, enjoying sunny skies, ocean breezes and scenic views while traveling through several Downbeach communities.
The ride began in Ventnor and followed a route through Atlantic City before looping south through Ventnor, Margate and Longport. Participants rode along the shoreline and through residential neighborhoods, taking in some of the area’s most picturesque coastal scenery before returning to Margate for a post-ride celebration.
Le Tour de Downbeach has become a popular tradition for families, recreational cyclists and community members looking to combine fitness, fun and philanthropy. The event promotes healthy outdoor activity while showcasing the unique character of the Downbeach communities.
Following the ride, participants gathered at Tomatoe’s restaurant in Margate for a barbecue celebration. Riders enjoyed food, refreshments and the opportunity to relax and share stories from the day’s ride.
A portion of the proceeds raised during the event will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Ann Marie Weisen, one of the founders and driving forces behind Le Tour de Downbeach. Organizers said honoring Weisen’s legacy remains an important part of the annual event and its charitable mission.
Over the years, Le Tour de Downbeach has evolved into more than just a bike ride. It has become a community gathering that brings together residents, visitors, local businesses and cycling enthusiasts while supporting a meaningful cause.

The event also highlights the ongoing partnership between the Margate Business Association and Ventnor Business Association, which work together throughout the year to promote community engagement and economic activity in the Downbeach area.
With favorable weather and strong participation, organizers considered this year’s ride another successful chapter in the event’s history. Riders of all ages completed the route, many returning for another year of cycling, camaraderie and community spirit. As participants enjoyed the concluding barbecue at Tomatoe’s, the atmosphere reflected the event’s longstanding appeal — a combination of outdoor recreation, charitable giving and local pride that continues to make Le Tour de Downbeach one of the Downbeach area’s most anticipated annual traditions.
