The Marjorie & Lewis Katz Jewish Community Center is offering a new Yoga for Grief class, held on Thursdays at 5:15 p.m., led by Beth Lewis, a compassionate and experienced yoga instructor. This gentle, supportive class is open to all members and members of the community aged 60 and older.
Grief is a deeply personal and complex process, affecting the body as much as the mind. While many are familiar with the emotional challenges of loss, physical symptoms such as fatigue, tension and disrupted sleep are also common. The Yoga for Grief class offers participants a space to begin healing through breathwork, meditation and mindful movement – practices shown to reduce stress, calm the nervous system and promote emotional balance.
Each session includes Yoga Nidra, a deeply restorative meditation practice known to ease anxiety, improve sleep and support overall well-being. Participants are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, pillow and a small memento or photograph that symbolizes their loved one. Comfortable clothing, socks, and a sweatshirt are recommended.
“Grief touches every part of our lives – body, mind and spirit,” said Ann Erik, Health and Wellness Director at the Katz JCC. “This class provides a safe, comforting environment where participants can begin to reconnect with themselves and find gentle ways to move through their grief. It’s about healing at your own pace, supported by community.”
Reservations are required. To register, please visit https://jccatlantic.org/2025/11/03/yoga-for-grief/ or contact Ann Erik, Health and Wellness Director, at aerik@jccatlantic.org.
