Atlantic City’s All Wars Memorial Building, also known as Soldiers Home, was dedicated in August of 1925. Throughout 2025, the City of Atlantic City is commemorating Soldiers Home for 100 years of outstanding service, commitment and dedication through a series of celebratory and educational events.
The yearlong celebration, coordinated by Atlantic City Council Vice President Kaleem Shabazz, with the support of City of Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, Sr., begins this Friday, January 31, 2025 with the 100th anniversary banner unveiling in the building’s lobby (1510 Adriatic Avenue). Mayor Small and Councilman Shabazz will deliver remarks during this 12:00 PM event. Next, this Saturday, February 1, 2025, the entire community is invited to Soldiers Home for a free 100th birthday celebration from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM with music, food and more. This event will also feature a Black History Month Expo. Details on other activities during the year – including a Memorial Day service and an event highlighting veteran’s contributions to civic and community life in Atlantic City – will be released as they become available.
All Wars Memorial Building has served as a beacon of resilience and unity for veterans of color during a time of segregation and beyond. To highlight their sacrifices and uplift their spirits, all veterans of color and their families are asked to send photos and/or share stories from Soldiers Home over the years. They can be submitted to solidershome100@gmail.com. Further questions regarding 100th anniversary festivities can also be directed to that email, or to Councilman Shabazz at kshabazz@acnj.gov or 609-957-0441.
