Major shifts and planetary moves are steady this week, which allows for this week’s Cosmic Connection to be devoted to the visual and energetic interplay between the sun and the moon. Remember that astrology, by definition, is the study of time and light. On Saturday, May 9, the moon reaches its third, or last quarter, square phase. Visually, this is when the moon appears as a semicircle illuminated on the left side.
Energetically, this translates as what’s called a “crisis of consciousness.” It’s the final test or challenge to whatever began, or whatever intentions were set, when the moon was new. This is the irritation caused by anything in the cosmos in a square aspect, at a 90° angle. The friction is there to encourage persistence and to motivate action to face the challenge and integrate the lessons fully into our consciousness. Think about starting a new routine. There’s usually something that interrupts, tests, or challenges momentum! The moon’s final square to the sun before becoming new again is that last “keep going or give up” point. Something this week will probably show up as a final test of what began with the incredible Aries new moon on April 17. The first challenge occurred with the first quarter square on April 23, and the short-term culmination occurred with last week’s Scorpio full moon on May 1. It’s a cool synchronicity that May is a blue moon month, and we get to devote this week to the visual and energetic illumination of the moon!
