The Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC) hosted a special sign dedication ceremony yesterday, honoring its Founder and Director Emeritus, Bob Schoelkopf. The ceremony recognized Bob’s extraordinary legacy in marine animal rescue and rehabilitation, which began nearly 50 years ago. The MMSC is the only organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of marine mammals in New Jersey and has since responded to over 6,000 stranded marine mammals and sea turtles across the state. The ceremony unveiled the street sign that reads “Bob Schoelkopf Drive” and is located on the southern end of the MMSC property, right next to the sidewalk and parking lot. The MMSC Board of Directors, MMSC staff and volunteers, and Brigantine City Councilman at Large Mike Riordan were all in attendance. Brigantine Beach Mayor Vince Sera offered his support of this new addition to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center as well as the dedication ceremony.
