The 2025 Ocean City High School Scholarship Gala was held on June 2, during which Anna Maria Marczyk, of Absecon, received the 2025 Steve A. Libro Memorial Scholarship for $1,000.
Hosted each year by his family, the Steve A. Libro Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of a longtime Sea Isle City community servant. In addition to working as a dispatcher for the Sea Isle City Police Department and opening his own business, Libro & Mammele Construction, Steve Libro was also an elected official serving as Commissioner from 1989 to 1993. Additionally, he was a member of the Sea Isle City Tourism Commission and Chamber of Commerce, as well as director of the Sea Isle City Recreation Department. Additionally, he coached many local children in numerous sports, he served as president of the Sea Isle City Board of Education, he taught CCD at Sea Isle’s Saint Joseph Church, where he was also a Knight of Columbus, and he was a local Boy Scout Leader.
With the help of this scholarship, Anna Maria Marczyk will be attending the College of New Jersey this fall, majoring in Business Management and participating in track and field. While attending Ocean City High School, along with the track team, Marczyk was also in the National Honor Society with four years of academic excellence.
In her scholarship application, Anna Maria included information about charities and service projects she has supported, which were essential to her receiving the Steve A. Libro Memorial Scholarship.
Each summer, the Sea Isle City Department of Recreation also hosts an annual Steve A. Libro Memorial Men’s Basketball Tournament at the JFK Boulevard basketball courts, which is also supported by the Libro family in Steve’s memory.
According to the Libro family, there has been a great amount of support for their scholarship and basketball tournament including from: Anthony’s Restaurant, Berger Realty, Boyle Finish Carpenters, the Commodore Club of Sea Isle City, Dalrymple’s Card & Gift Shoppe, Dave Farina, Freda Real Estate, Jim Gaffney, Giovanni’s Delicatessen, the Kehner Family, Laricks Real Estate, Gleeson’s Liquor Store, Mark Haas, Henri’s at Braca Café, McCann Realtors, Mike’s Seafood, the Ocean Drive, Ready’s Coffee Shop, Sands Department Store, and others.
