Redefining beauty standards: embracing body positivity

Empowering Women
By Rachel Guevara

At Lift & Glitz Training Studio, the word “Glitz” isn’t just about sparkles or glamour—it’s about confidence, self-love and embracing what makes you unique. When I started this studio, I knew I wanted it to be more than just a gym. I wanted it to be a space where women could feel strong, empowered and beautiful—not because of a number on the scale, but because of how they feel about themselves.

For too long, beauty has been defined by unrealistic standards—airbrushed magazine covers, social media filters and a narrow definition of what a “perfect” body should look like. But here’s the truth: beauty isn’t about fitting into a mold. Beauty is strength. Beauty is confidence. Beauty is YOU.

As a studio owner, trainer and woman, I’ve seen firsthand how damaging these unrealistic expectations can be. But I’ve also seen the incredible transformation that happens when women shift their mindset, embrace body positivity and start seeing themselves as the powerful, beautiful individuals they are.

So how do we redefine beauty and embrace self-love? Here are a few ways to cultivate a stronger, more confident self-image.

  1. Stop negative self-talk

How often do you look in the mirror and immediately pick yourself apart? It’s time to change the conversation you have with yourself. Instead of saying, “I hate my thighs,” try, “My legs are strong and carry me through life.” Instead of, “I wish my stomach was flatter,” say, “My body is capable, and I’m grateful for it.” The words you tell yourself matter—choose them wisely.

  1. Focus on what your body can do, not just how it looks

At Lift & Glitz, we celebrate strength over size. Can you lift heavier weights than you did last month? Are you feeling more energized? Can you run after your kids without getting tired? These victories are far more important than a number on the scale. Your body is powerful—treat it with the respect it deserves.

  1. Curate your social media feed

Social media can be a powerful tool, but it can also be toxic if you’re constantly comparing yourself to unrealistic images. Unfollow accounts that make you feel less than enough and start following body-positive influencers, fitness pages that promote strength and self-love and people who uplift and inspire you.

  1. Dress for confidence, not for the scale

Wear clothes that make you feel good right now, not “when you lose weight” or “when you tone up.” Confidence isn’t about size; it’s about how you feel in your own skin. Find pieces that make you feel empowered and wear them with pride.

  1. Surround yourself with positive energy

Being around women who uplift and encourage one another is life-changing. That’s exactly what we foster at Lift & Glitz—a community where women of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds support each other. Find your tribe, whether it’s in a fitness studio, a friend group or an online community.

Beauty is more than skin deep

At the end of the day, beauty isn’t about size, shape or weight. It’s about the energy you bring into a room, the kindness you show yourself and others and the confidence you carry in your soul. You are already beautiful, exactly as you are.
