OSJL adds three new stores in former Big Lots locations in the Garden State in May

Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL), the region’s premier discount retail chain, celebrated the opening of its newest store in New Jersey, located at 257 W New Road in Somers Point, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this afternoon. The 29,402 sq. ft. space, formerly home to a Big Lots, marks OSJL’s tenth store in the Garden State and the third of three stores the brand opened in May. Barnegat celebrated its grand opening on May 17th and Cape May hosted its official grand opening May 31.

OSJL executives joined local officials including City officials including Somers Point Mayor Dennis Tapp, Council President Charles Haberkorn, Councilwoman Janice Johnston, and Councilman Sean McGuigan for a celebration that highlighted the company’s continued investment in revitalizing well-known retail sites and expanding job opportunities in the region. And, as part of OSJL’s ongoing commitment to the communities it serves, the OSJL Charitable Foundation also provided a donation from its Operation Sleep Well initiative of 35 kits including linens, towels, and bedding to Enphront Veteran Services.

In addition to the ribbon cutting, customers enjoyed free pictures with Bluey, complimentary glitter tattoos, complimentary donuts and beverages, and a live broadcast from a local radio station. All attendees had the chance to win one of three $150 Ocean State Job Lot gift cards and were enrolled in OSJL’s free Job Lot Insider Club loyalty program.

“We’re so happy to open our doors in the Somers Point community,” said Andriana Leiva, Store Team Leader, Somers Point. “Revitalizing this store to showcase Ocean State Job Lot’s unique brand of shopping the week of Memorial Day is testament to the hard work of our fantastic associates.”

This location has created new jobs for the area, including supervisory, full-time, part-time, and seasonal roles. OSJL expects to continue its expansion across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic with additional store openings throughout 2025.
