OC business giving back in huge waves this holiday season

The season of giving has begun, and one family-owned business is stepping up to help neighbors in need throughout our community.

On Tuesday, Nov. 14, Heritage Surf & Sport in Ocean City donated $1,500 to Waves of Caring, a non-profit charity formed in the 1980s. The organization aids local families in need of food and assistance. Additionally, it assists in delivering toys to kids during the holiday season.

Over the last three years, Heritage has become involved in addressing food insecurity among children. Recent data from the New Jersey Department of Health reports that Cape May County is one of the most food insecure counties among children in the state.

Jim Hennessey is the owner of Ocean City’s Heritage location. “It’s always better to start in our own backyard,” Hennessey said.

Established in 1962, Heritage Surf & Sport has been part of many causes, from assisting police officers and firefighters, to educational endeavors.

From now until Christmas, their Ocean City location will be collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations for the Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s Southern Branch, helping to feed families in Atlantic and Cape May counties.
