Obituary For Marian Talese

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Marian Talese on July 7. Ocean City has lost one of those rare people whose quiet generosity and unwavering love for the community made our island a brighter place.

Marian was a gifted artist, a passionate preservationist, and someone who believed deeply in the history, beauty, and friendships that define Ocean City.

Friends of OCNJ History & Culture came to know Marian shortly after the community preservation group was formed. As a member of the Ocean City Historic Preservation Commission, she reached out with a simple question: “How can I help?” Those were not just words—they were her way of life. She shared stories, photographs, historical insights, and encouragement whenever we needed them. In 2026, she graciously allowed us to feature her artwork in support of our organization in our annual calendar; another example of her generosity and commitment to preserving Ocean City’s heritage.

Perhaps what was most remarkable about Marian was her outlook on life. Even in her final days, she never wanted the conversation to be about herself. Instead, she talked about Ocean City—its history, its future, and what could be done to make it an even better place. That optimism, grace, and selflessness inspired everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Marian’s legacy will live on in the art she created, the history she helped preserve, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to her family, her many friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed, but she will not be forgotten.
