Mosaic is bringing the benefits of therapeutic gardening to older adults through its engaging and impactful year-round programs designed especially for individuals with Alzheimer’s and dementia. These horticultural therapy sessions are available to senior centers, memory care communities, and other organizations looking to enrich the lives of those they serve.

Therapeutic gardening is more than just planting flowers—it’s a proven approach to improving physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being. Participants enjoy hands-on activities that encourage movement, spark memory, and promote social interaction—all in a calming, nature-based environment.

“Gardening provides a sense of purpose, connection, and joy,” said Erin Luurtsema, Director of Philanthropy at Mosaic.“For those living with memory loss, it can be especially meaningful.”

Mosaic customizes its programs for each location, group, and season. Whether it’s a raised garden bed, container plants, an indoor potting activity or garden-inspired crafts, the focus is on creating an experience that is engaging, therapeutic, and accessible. Key benefits of Mosaic’s therapeutic gardening programs include:

·      Improved Motor Skills – Gentle movements like planting or watering help strengthen fine and gross motor function.

·      Enhanced Mood – Time spent in nature can reduce depression, anxiety, and agitation.

·       Memory Stimulation – Familiar sights, smells, and textures often spark long-forgotten memories.

·       Social Connection – Group gardening activities foster teamwork, conversation, and community.

·       Peaceful Respite – The garden setting provides a calming space for both participants and caregivers.

Programs are available for booking throughout the region. Nonprofit organizations are encouraged to inquire about funding support through Mosaic. For-profit partners are welcome to participate at a program rate. To learn more or to schedule a therapeutic gardening session, please contact
