Mayor Marty Small Sr. welcomed businessman George Norcross’ purchase of the former Trump Plaza site, calling the acquisition a sign of growing investor confidence in Atlantic City.

“I am ecstatic that George Norcross, his family and his partners are investing in the former Trump Plaza site,” Small said in a statement Wednesday. “When successful business leaders like Mr. Norcross choose Atlantic City, it sends a strong message and helps attract additional investors who recognize the opportunities here.”

Small noted that the Norcross team already has business interests in the city through Formica Freitag Bakery.

The former casino property is an oceanfront site in the heart of the city. Trump Plaza closed in 2014 and was demolished in 2021.

Small said the property has “endless possibilities,” although no additional casinos will be permitted in Atlantic City.

“We welcome the Norcross team’s vision for the property and look forward to learning more about their plans when they are ready to share them,” Small said.

The mayor said he looks forward to working with Norcross and his team, Gov. Mikie Sherrill and Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson as plans for the property move forward.

Small had long sought an investor for the site, which is next door to the iconic Boardwalk Hall, former home of the Miss America pageant.

At the time of the tower’s implosion in 2021, he said clearing the land would be a game changer for the city. Chunks had been falling off the decrepit empty tower. But the property sat idle for 12 years.
