The Holtzman Gallery at the Milton & Betty Katz Jewish Community Center will host a meet-and-greet event with nationally recognized artist Gordon Kibbee on Thursday, March 12, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The free public event will be held in conjunction with Kibbee’s solo exhibition, “Dream Portals: A Vision Into the Surreal World of Life in the Eyes of Gordon Kibbee… The Past, Present & Future.” The exhibit is on display through April 2 at the community center in Margate City.

According to organizers, the exhibition features original fine art and illustrations spanning Kibbee’s career. Attendees at the March 12 reception will have the opportunity to meet the artist while viewing works from the collection. Complimentary wine and light fare will be served, and artwork will be available for purchase.

Kibbee worked as a freelance illustrator from the early 1960s through about 2000, producing artwork for advertising agencies, newspapers, corporations and studios. His illustrations have appeared in publications including TV Guide, Redbook, The Saturday Evening Post, Playboy, Venture Magazine and Ranger Rick, as well as on record album and paperback book covers.

He also received a nomination at the Grammy Awards for his album cover artwork for “Baroque Fanfares” and “Sonatas for Brass.”

Kibbee collaborated with writer, humorist and broadcaster Jean Shepherd on a series of illustrated childhood stories. In addition, Kibbee has written and illustrated two children’s books of his own that explore imaginative themes about life and the cosmos.

The exhibit can be viewed during regular hours at the Katz JCC, located in Margate. Hours are Monday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Admission to both the exhibition and the March 12 reception is free and open to the public.
