As people around the world watch in horror at the devastating impact of the California wildfires, Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson wants to allay any fears among Atlantic County residents that their homes and properties are at risk.
“Atlantic County residents can rest comfortably knowing wildfires are not a threat at this time,” stated Levinson.
He explained that county officials reached out to representatives of the State Fire Warden and were told that our risk is currently very low due to the recent snowfall and the fact that unlike California, New Jersey routinely conducts controlled burns to provide protection from wildfires by eliminating underbrush and leaf litter that can fuel forest fires.
“There are never any guarantees, but we feel confident that the unimaginable loss and destruction we are witnessing in California is not likely to occur here,” said Levinson. “Our hearts go out to the thousands of victims who have lost their homes and their belongings. And our deepest gratitude goes to the brave firefighters and emergency personnel who put their lives in harm’s way to protect the life and property of their fellow citizens.”
