Join the Excitement: September Basketball Leagues at the Marjorie & Lewis Katz JCC

As summer winds down, the Marjorie & Lewis Katz Jewish Community Center (JCC) is gearing up for another exciting season of basketball with its Ciocca Atlantic City-sponsored Basketball Leagues. These leagues offer a competitive sporting experience where dedicated referees ensure fair play, and players compete weekly in intense games that lead to exhilarating playoffs and a championship showdown.

Leagues take place throughout the year, but there is something special about the fall season. The energy is palpable as players return to the court after summer break, ready to reconnect with their teammates and face off against their rivals. League players do not need to be JCC members to compete and can join as solo players or register an entire team.

The basketball leagues cater to a wide range of players, from seasoned veterans to those looking to rekindle their passion for the sport. The upcoming season begins the week of Sept. 10, and registration is now open for two different leagues: the Men’s League and the Women’s League. Each league provides a unique opportunity for players to compete at their level and build lasting friendships through the sport they love. Spectators are also welcome to attend games and support their favorite athletes.

The Men’s League offers a high level of competition, drawing players who are looking to push their limits and showcase their skills. With games played on weeknights between 6 and 9 p.m., it is a perfect way to unwind after a day’s work and engage in some physical activity. The Women’s League, inspired by the recent success of female athletes in the 2024 Olympics, aims to empower women to take to the court and demonstrate their athletic abilities.

All league fees include regular season and playoff games, referees, and team t-shirts. Schedules are provided at the beginning of each season, allowing teams to plan accordingly and maximize their participation. Staff is present at every game, keeping stats on the players and highlighting outstanding gameplay with weekly shoutouts on social media.

Madison Guyer, the JCC’s sports and recreation director, expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming season. “This year, we’re not just playing basketball; we’re celebrating the incredible achievements of athletes worldwide. The success of female athletes in the 2024 Olympics has been truly inspiring, and we’re thrilled to see that same spirit of excellence and dedication reflected in our leagues. We welcome all players to join us for a season of competitive fun and community building. As a former Division I athlete, I’m so enthused to add female athletes to our basketball leagues,” Guyer said.

In addition to the personal benefits of playing in the leagues, there are also opportunities for local businesses to get involved through season and annual sponsorships. These sponsorships offer a fantastic way for businesses to support the vibrant community and gain visibility among members and visitors.
