Giving gifts that come from the heart

Real Estate Matters
By Elisa Jo Eagan

This being the week of Christmas, it brings to mind what’s most important to give at this time of year. Searching for that perfect gift? These gifts won’t cost you money; they will come from your heart, which is priceless.

Time and Listening

Spend time with family, friends, neighbors and loved ones, especially elderly relatives, by truly listening to the important things that they have to say about their life stories and catching up on what’s going on in their lives. Just listen.

Show Love and Affection

Be generous with your affection. Give hugs and kisses. Hold hands and show your love and support.

A Note or Card

It can be as simple as, “I love you” on a piece of paper, or a “Thank you for being you” surprise note in a lunchbox. A sweet note will bring joy to your loved ones.

Laughter

Laughter is good for the soul and brings happiness. Just cut out a funny cartoon, copy and send a cute joke or riddle. This says, “I love to laugh with you.”

A Game

Offer to play your loved one’s favorite game with them, like playing Monopoly together as a family or a game of Fish with cards, trivia, checkers, or chess. It’s about the fun and being together – an experience that creates memories.

Do a Favor Without Being Asked

Being thoughtful and offering your help before being asked is a memorable gift. Offer to help with household chores, especially for friends, loved ones and elderly relatives or neighbors who may need assistance with shopping or shoveling their walkway in the snow.

Have a Cheerful Disposition

Do your best to be cheerful with those you love and care about. A positive attitude goes a long way and brings everyone else around you into a better mood. The gift of cheerfulness is a precious gift not only to others, but to you too.

Peace

Sometimes a little quiet time is a good thing. Giving those that you love and care about a little space, peace, quiet, solitude and restful time when they need it the most is a wonderful gift. Being intuitive to your loved one’s needs will be graciously appreciated.

Pay a Compliment

A simple compliment such as, “You look pretty in that dress,” or “Your hair looks nice,” or, “Blue is a good color on you,” or, “Thank you, honey, that was a delicious meal,” really can go a long way toward making someone’s day and show that they know they are appreciated.

Care and Friendship

Let all of the special people in your life know how much you care about and love them. Send them goodness. Let them know that they are special to you and that you are keeping them in your thoughts, prayers and hearts.

Sending you hugs this Christmas, as they are the perfect gift for everyone. They are free, one-size-fits-all, and can be easily returned!

With hugs, love and warm regards.
