Tune In, Turn On

Fans of original music who reside anywhere near the Jersey Shore are probably aware of Garden State Live! If you aren’t, it’s a cool, original music showcase sponsored by the Prudential North2Shore Festival, in conjunction with Hard Rock Hotel & Casino/Atlantic City, where it has been taking place each month at the venue’s Sound Waves Theatre.

Each show spotlights rising stars across different genres, with a special focus on artists from South and Central Jersey. This Friday, Dec. 19, offers full sets by three female singer-songwriters.

Max Davey, from Philadelphia, blends indie folk and Americana, and shares her personal stories, crafting music that invites listeners to pause, reflect and celebrate the beauty of life’s journey with an authenticity that has earned her a loyal following.

Maddie Hogan (pictured), who hails from Cape May, is a dynamic singer-songwriter who blends pop-driven originals tinged with a wide range of influences, including rock, country, hip-hop and musicals. Accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, Hogan is a vivid storyteller who appeared on the 15th season of “American Idol,” earning a golden ticket for her stellar performances.

And Camille K, who’s been written about in this column in the past, is a gifted singer-songwriter, musician and actor from Mt. Laurel, who began performing professionally when she was 11 years old. Influenced by her mother’s love of soul, R&B and classic love songs, and her father’s love of classic rock, Camille crafts timeless tunes with a modern pop edge.

She’s shared the stage with icons like Gina Schock (The Go-Go’s), Jeff “Skunk” Baxter (Steely Dan/Doobie Brothers) and Barry Goudreau (Boston). She has also opened for artists like Flo Rida, Ja Rule, C&C Music Factory, Lit, Chris Kirkpatrick of *NSYNC, O-Town, LFO and Jon Anderson (Yes).

Camille is a member of the David Bowie tribute, Hazy Cosmic Jive, who will perform Bowie’s entire “Station to Station” album Jan. 9 during Philly Loves Bowie Week at a Philadelphia venue TBA.

Tickets are available in advance for Garden State Live! Singer-Songwriter Night (show starts 7 p.m.) available here: https://northtoshore.com/event/garden-state-live-max-davey-maddie-hogan-camille-k/.

Tune-Ups

A big weekend of music is happening at Anchor Rock Club in Atlantic City on Friday, Dec. 19. It features a free Holiday Party thanking all the club’s patrons, with a performance by the group Bar Dust. The Philly-based Pogues tribute was such a hit last year, performing at the Anchor’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade after-party, that Anchor head honcho Greg Mungan is bringing them back. And who doesn’t love Irish music with punk rock overtones, which describes The Pogue’s sound to a T?

Deejaying this show is the Bad Decision Club, whose Jeremy Grites, a part-time Brigantine resident, has quite the background as a musician and an artist. He is a former drummer for New Wave legend Wreckless Eric; the Philadelphia band The Improbables; and the Jersey Shore rock group Noise Museum, which included late WLFR DJ Paul Glaser and Adam Berardo (a.k.a. 1adam12). He’s also a collage artist who does gallery shows, and a set builder who recently worked on Robert DeNiro’s upcoming movie, the fourth installment of the hit, “Meet The Parents” franchise starring Ben Stiller.

Stop into the Anchor on Friday and tell Jeremy you read about him in Shore Local (door opens 7, show at 8:30). On Saturday, Dec. 20, area hard rockers Gutter Drunk return to ARC (door opens 7, show at 8). That always means a full house!

Until next week, stay warm. You know what we always ask: support our local/area live music community..
