Scouting America’s Garden State Council will honor Rita M. Rothberg, County Clerk of Cape May County, and Patrick Rosenello, Mayor of North Wildwood, at the 2025 Cape May County Distinguished Citizens Award Reception on Tuesday, October 28, at 5:30 p.m. at the Wildwoods Convention Center. The annual event, chaired by David Beyel, Owner of Boulevard Super Liquors, celebrates local leaders whose service strengthens the community while inspiring the next generation of Scouts.

Tickets and sponsorships are available at bit.ly/capemaydca.

“Rita Rothberg and Patrick Rosenello embody the leadership, integrity, and community commitment that Scouting strives to instill in every young person,” said Patrick Linfors, Scout Executive and CEO of the Garden State Council. “By celebrating their achievements, we show our youth what it means to serve others, lead with purpose, and make a lasting impact in their communities.”

Proceeds from the event support local Scouting programs that teach character, citizenship, and leadership skills to youth across southern New Jersey. The reception also brings together business leaders, civic organizations, and supporters to honor those whose work reflects the mission and spirit of Scouting.

Rita Rothberg served Cape May County for decades, joining the County Clerk’s Office in 1985 and elected County Clerk in 2005. She manages elections, real estate records, U.S. passports, and marriages, and oversees human services responsibilities as County Adjuster. Recognized with the PARIS Grants Award for Excellence, Rothberg is a respected leader on multiple boards supporting arts, women, and community development.

Mayor Patrick Rosenello, now in his third term, is known for guiding North Wildwood through the COVID-19 pandemic and advocating for sustainable coastal policies. Beyond public service, he is a successful entrepreneur managing commercial properties and cultural assets, including the iconic Wildwoods Boardwalk Sightseer Tram Cars.

The Scouting America Garden State Council serves thousands of youths across southern New Jersey, providing life-changing experiences that help young people grow into leaders, build lasting values, and lead lives rooted in service and adventure. Leaders like Rita and Patrick—who exemplify character, service, and community—help ensure Scouting continues to inspire generations to live by the ideals of the Scout Oath and Law.
