Atlantic City has never been short on entertainment, but there’s something satisfying about an evening when everything comes together under one roof.

On Friday, Oct. 23, Ocean Casino Resort supplied the ingredients: glow-in-the-dark miniature golf, colorful cocktails and a performance by comedian John Mulaney.

The pairing of Ocean’s 18 Mini Golf & Bar and Mulaney’s Mister Whatever tour highlighted two sides of the resort’s entertainment offerings — and provided a full night out beyond the casino floor.

One attraction invited guests to pick up a putter and join the spectacle; the other put a storyteller at center stage. Together, they offered a reminder that an Atlantic City evening can move easily from casual competition to a headlining show.

Ocean’s 18 Mini Golf & Bar

Opened in January 2026, Ocean’s 18 takes a familiar Jersey Shore pastime indoors, into a space resembling an underwater nightclub.

The 8,000-square-foot venue, on the casino level near LaScala’s Fire, features two nine-hole courses across two levels. Blues, purples and pinks illuminate the playing surfaces, while ocean-inspired artwork and holographic effects give the space a distinctly different feel from traditional Boardwalk miniature golf.

Its most eye-catching feature, however, isn’t a hole or obstacle. It’s a 12-foot holographic great white shark hovering above the bar.

The shark is part of a $500,000 investment in holographic technology developed by the same company behind effects used at the Sphere in Las Vegas.

On the courses, compact holes combine playful obstacles, glowing targets and creative layouts. The emphasis is on friendly competition rather than putting prowess, making the experience accessible whether players regularly reach the cup or send their balls wandering.

The full-service bar serves specialty cocktails, including the blue Jaws 18 martini. A bonus hole gives players another challenge and a chance to win prizes.

The appeal lies in the combination. Guests can play, socialize and enjoy the visual effects without needing much of a plan. The atmosphere gives even a missed putt some entertainment value.

Ocean’s 18 adds an interactive option to a city often associated with gambling and headline performances. It also works well as a warmup for a show.

Mulaney takes the stage

At 9 p.m., the evening shifted from neon-lit putting greens to Ovation Hall, where Mulaney delivered the sharp storytelling and precise timing that have become his trademarks.

His Mister Whatever tour also showed how his comedy has evolved.

Some of the squeaky-clean image associated with his earlier specials has given way to material more willing to explore uncomfortable subjects and the disorder of everyday life.

While his 2023 Netflix special “Baby J” focused on addiction and recovery, this performance ranged from the frustrations of owning a $1,000 clothes dryer to the peculiarities of fatherhood.

Those subjects might seem unrelated, but connecting unlikely ideas is part of Mulaney’s skill. An ordinary complaint can become an elaborate story, with a punchline arriving from a direction the audience didn’t anticipate.

His polished delivery makes those turns especially effective. He can carry a mundane observation into an increasingly ridiculous scenario while making each step seem reasonable.

The humor was sometimes dark, irreverent and deliberately uncomfortable. Religion, politics and generational differences all entered the mix, with Mulaney pushing boundaries while retaining control of the pacing.

The pleasure was often in watching him build a story: establishing a recognizable frustration, adding an unexpected detail and following it well beyond the point where most people would stop.

For audiences familiar with his earlier work, the show offered a performer increasingly willing to complicate his public image. The material felt more interested in the messy realities of adulthood than in maintaining a wholesome persona.

At Ovation Hall, comfortable seating and clear sightlines helped keep the focus on his delivery. His storytelling provided a strong centerpiece for the evening.

An easy pairing

The attractions worked well together because they offered different kinds of entertainment without requiring a change of venue.

Ocean’s 18 provided a playful, social start. Mulaney’s performance gave the night its main event. Restaurants and lounges elsewhere in the resort offered options for filling the time between them or extending the evening afterward.

That convenience matters when planning a night out. Moving between activities within one property leaves more time to enjoy them, whether the occasion is a date, a celebration or an evening with friends.

The pairing also demonstrated how visitors can build an Atlantic City itinerary without placing a bet.

For locals, it offered a reason to revisit a familiar destination. For visitors, it showed how much can fit into one evening.

On this Friday, the formula was straightforward: a little competition, some spectacle and a comedian who knew how to turn an ordinary frustration into a roomful of laughter.
