Fool Moon Theatre Company will present John Pielmeier’s psychological drama “Agnes of God” Oct. 22-25 at studio;space in Somers Point.

The tightly focused play is both a character study and a murder mystery. After a newborn is found dead in a cloistered convent, a court-appointed psychiatrist must uncover the truth surrounding a young novice nun who claims to have no memory of giving birth.

Described by The New York Times as “a melodramatic clash between rational science and divine faith,” the play explores questions of faith, reason and responsibility. “Agnes of God” was also adapted into an award-winning film.

The cast features veterans of previous Fool Moon Theatre productions. Kate Read plays court-appointed psychiatrist Dr. Martha Livingstone. Read most recently appeared in “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” and “A Bad Year for Tomatoes.”

Pattye Herron portrays Mother Miriam Ruth. Her previous credits include “Lost in Yonkers” and “Blue Yonder.” Satya Byers plays Sister Agnes after appearing in Fool Moon’s productions of “Pippin” and “The Drowsy Chaperone.”

“This is a terrific cast performing a challenging play,” director Paul Herron said. “Fool Moon Theatre loves to push the boundaries of the local theater scene, and ‘Agnes of God’ will do just that.”
