The Showboat is proud to announce the inaugural East Coast Women’s Championships, a groundbreaking event set to take place from February 7-9, 2025. This historic tournament marks the first-ever all-female boxing competition east of the Mississippi River, a milestone that promises to empower and inspire women in sports. The event will feature female amateur boxers from the Pee Wee to Masters divisions, providing a platform for athletes of all ages and skill levels to compete, develop and thrive in the world of sports.
The East Coast Women’s Championships is the brainchild of visionary leadership Jackie Atkins, in collaboration with her charitable foundation, the New Jersey Give A Kid A Dream Program (NJGAKAD). This tournament offers female boxers the opportunity to showcase their talents and pursue their dreams in a sport where such opportunities have historically been limited. Coach Jackie’s mission is supported by Yessenia Montalvo and Heidi Sheehan, fellow female coaches and gym owners in New Jersey, who share her dedication to advancing women’s boxing.
In addition to the tournament, a special 1-hour Non-Contact Fitness Seminar will take place on Saturday the 8th, from 12pm-1pm. The seminar, designed for girls and women of all ages, will focus on flexibility and basic boxing movements. Participants will also receive one complimentary ticket to the Showboat’s Island Waterpark, redeemable in 2025 (retail value up to $100). Space is limited and the $10 registration fee (which benefits the NJGAKAD Foundation) is required to attend.
“At a time when girls and women are choosing boxing as their sport, the East Coast Women’s Championships offer an essential platform for them to demonstrate their talent and gain invaluable experience,” said Jackie Atkins, CEO of NJGAKAD. “This event is not just about competition—it’s about empowerment, growth, and creating a brighter future for women in sports. The Showboat’s commitment to hosting this event on the East Coast makes it even more special, as a venue that continues to support the strength of overall development of female athletes.”
The tournament, sanctioned by USA Boxing, invites female amateurs of all levels, ranging from novice competitors to seasoned athletes in highly competitive brackets. By bringing athletes together in one venue, the event not only reduces barriers to entry but also fosters camaraderie and growth within the sport.
“With no national women’s tournament scheduled for 2025, this event is a game-changer,” added Atkins. “We’re excited to fill this gap and bring a high-caliber competition to the East Coast that will significantly impact the future of women’s boxing.”
The Showboat Resort is honored to host this historic event. “At Showboat, we are fully committed to championing female athletes and advancing women in sports,” said Anthony Faranca, General Manager of the Showboat. He added, “We are thrilled to welcome these incredibly talented athletes to Atlantic City and be part of this groundbreaking moment in women’s boxing.” Atkins added, “I am honored to work alongside Anthony, whose unwavering support of the NJGAKAD program and dedication to women’s empowerment are truly making a lasting and positive impact on our kids and our community.”
The tournament is open to all female amateur boxers who register through USA Boxing. Coaches and officials must also register online. For all registration details, please visit: https://usaboxing.webpoint.us/
